The strategic aim of the board was to support the West Midlands in developing accelerated training courses to support with the digital skills shortages employers across the region were facing, in order to drive continued economic growth.
Matt played a pivotal role in convening industry specialists to identify suitable programmes and drive engagement between employers and training providers. By acting as a critical friend to the Combined Authority, we were able to ensure that programmes were truly fit for purpose and met the requirements of employers. During his time as Chair, over 2500 West Midlands residents secured a positive outcome as a result of completing a programme that he supported to design.
From a financial perspective the WMCA were award £5m initially as a pilot. The success of these programmes has seen a national rollout of funding to the sum of £90m annually, of which the West Midlands has received £33m to date. Without the industry engagement, led by Matt, the region may not have received this level of investment.
Matt lead the Digital Skills Partnership board, set actions that were implemented and contributed to the shaping of future provision. His industry knowledge was an asset on which 100’s of the regions businesses are now benefiting from a talent pool of job ready candidates, having an impact on both residents and businesses alike. ~ I chaired the Digital Skills Partnership Board
The Poetry Archive’s websites and social media were outdated and our visitor numbers dropping when we engaged Matt’s help. From Digital Policy planning right through to tender and delivery of the solution, Matt guided us through an ambitious programme to completely renew, re-design and relaunch our digital resources and social media marketing. By ensuring our whole team, from Trustees to Executive, understood how our digital investments could be more strategically and financially effective, his advice saved us months of work and budget.
